Companies should prepare for the issuance of a new 12-sided coin of 1 pound, the British Treasury announced.
The site, launched by the Royal Mint, encourages companies to adapt their equipment and prepare employees to issue a new coin, which is scheduled for March 2017. All machines that accept cash, should be empowered to modify at this point.
At the 6-month transition period, companies will have to allow the reception of new and old coins.
After that, the current coin of 1 pound will be derived from a wide circulation, but most banks and post offices will accept coins and old-fashioned.
The new coin is introduced because, according to the Mint, about every 30th coin of 1 pound now is a fake. The new coins will be much harder to fake.
"The new coin in lb1 will be the most secure of its kind and its advanced features will be a serious barrier to counterfeiters," - said the Treasury chief secretary David Gouk. It is reported by BBC.
