Judging by the photos published on Twitter by the columnist following the novelties of the People's Liberation Army, China is testing the electromagnetic gun mounted on the landing barge Haiyang Shan. This ship, which is part of the East Sea fleet, is already 20 years old, but only it has a sufficient size of a deck to hold the containers for the control and power system necessary for the operation of the rail gun, says the microblogging Dafeng Cao. Especially important is the energy supply system, since even modern warships will not have enough power for firing by dispersed particles. It can be sufficient only for the destroyers of the "Zamvolt" class of the US Navy, since they were developed taking into account the possible electromagnetic weapons. For about 10 years, the US Navy and various contractors have been working on a system of rail guns for US warships.

The prototype was built by BAE Systems. The first tests were successful. The gun had to accelerate the particles to a speed corresponding to 7 mah and more at a distance of more than 160 km. A shell weighing 12 kg, developing such a speed, has 32 megajoules of energy. However, this program for the most part was canceled due to the reduction of the budget of the Ministry of Defense and loss of interest on the part of customers.
