Municipality of Duisburg (Germany) and Huawei signed a protocol of intent to work together on the "smart" city project. Duisburg is a city of district subordination in the west of Germany (the land of North Rhine-Westphalia), near Dusseldorf. Within the framework of the project it is planned to form the infrastructure of a smart metropolis, which will make everyday life in the city more comfortable and safe. In particular, it is planned to expand the urban WLAN-network with the inclusion of public transport systems. In the sphere of education, the emphasis will be on "smart" classes with Wi-Fi and broadband Internet access. In addition, the partners intend to create a "smart" system of street lighting and traffic management, infrastructure networks, as well as an e-government-friendly e-government system based on cloud solutions.
In addition, Huawei will share its experience in building wireless broadband networks and using 5G technologies, which are necessary to implement such concepts as the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4. 0), unmanned transport and "smart" logistics. In general, as noted, an integrated ecosystem will be formed, which will include local and international enterprises, as well as municipal authorities, research institutes and higher education institutions.
