In early December last year, the new space telescope James Webb successfully passed cryogenic tests. Parts of the telescope (scientific instrument compartment and optical element) were immersed in a sealed chamber, where they passed a series of tests. NASA specialists had to make sure that James Webb could work properly in the cold airless space environment. Now, the US space agency has published a time-lapse video demonstrating the process of loading a new space telescope into the cryogenic chamber (and also unloading - after long tests). During the tests, engineers varied the temperature inside the chamber - in particular, the temperature dropped to -233 degrees Celsius.

Near the end of testing, the camera began to gradually warm up, let in air; the camera door specialists opened on December 1. Now, after the completion of the cryogenic tests, the telescope. James Webb will be transported to the test stand Northorn Grumman Aerospace Systems in Redondo Beach (California), where he will be equipped with an engine compartment. NASA plans to launch a new telescope in the spring of 2019.
