Belarus plans next year to abandon the import of electricity, failing to agree on a price with Russia, the only supplier in recent years. Let's note, this year Belarus reduced the import of electricity from Russia to 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours, compared with 3.1 billion a year earlier. "Since 2018, we have been completely reluctant to import electricity," said Belarus Minister of Energy Vladimir Potupchik.
At the same time, adding that Minsk did not approve the price offered by the supplier. The Belarusian energy system allows to meet the country's electricity needs, however Minsk imported small volumes for economic reasons. In 2019, Belarus plans to launch the first power unit of its own nuclear power plant. The authorities say that after this they expect to start exporting electricity.
