Germany and other European countries in the future will be even more than before, depend on the supply of natural gas. This is stated in the annual study of the German Federal Institute of Geological Sciences and Raw Materials (BGR), the results of which are published on the website of the department on Tuesday, December 12. Analyzing the data for 2016, experts concluded that, despite the fact that European countries have access to a large volume of world reserves of natural gas, "geopolitical risks remain a key factor in gas supply". In this regard, "because of the declining production of natural gas, Germany and Europe are increasingly dependent on imports". Germany is the world's largest importer of natural gas: in 2016 almost a quarter (23%) of the total volume of blue fuel delivered to Europe fell to Germany, according to the report.. In this case, according to the consumer portal Verivox, the price of electricity in Germany next year will remain stable. In 2017, the cost of 1 kW / h for the first time in the last 12 years has dropped to below 6 cents.
Among the most important suppliers of natural gas to the territory of Germany, in addition to the countries of the Persian Gulf, is Russia. According to the GBR, the members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which includes the Russian Federation, account for the largest part of the world's natural gas reserves (81%). At the same time, almost 54% of the total volume of blue fuel is concentrated in Russia, Iran and Qatar.
