Researchers from Boston Children's Hospital told about their new development - a robotic system capable of supporting the work of a "bad heart". To date, it has been tested on porcine hearts, through which various dysfunctions of this important organ have been mimicked. The robot is mounted over the heart, and then the mechanism gently squeezes the organ in the right rhythm. The system does not completely cover the heart unlike similar devices, but only half: in the human heart there are two ventricles, and in cases of "failures", as a rule, only one. It is to maintain his work and designed a new robot.

The system requires further development, because it can not be called miniature: with the help of cables and wires it is connected to an external device the size of about a DVD player, writes The Verge. Scientists will have to conduct long-term trials on animals and conduct clinical studies before applying it to humans. According to Nikolai Vasiliev from the group of researchers at Boston Children's Hospital, in the future the device will become more compact.
