Workhorse, based in Ohio, plans to make the first demonstration flight of the "flying taxi" SureFly at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which opens on January 8 in Las Vegas, writes Digital Trends.
"CES is the perfect place to show SureFly," says Mike Dektas, spokesman for Workhorse. "This is the number one technology show in the world, and SureFly is a great example of how technology has entered the world of VTOL". Futuristic vehicle SureFly made of carbon fiber was first shown earlier this year at the Paris Air Show. It can carry up to 180 kg and is controlled by eight separate propellers. A quadrocopter hybrid system that combines a gas engine and a battery pack. According to the company, the early versions of the device will be manned, but eventually there will be completely autonomous models. The SureFly range is 112 km at a top speed of 112 km / h. On the ground, the machine can fold propellers, so it fits perfectly in the garage. "SureFly reinvents the helicopter," says Dektas.
"The pilots control it with a joystick, much like an ordinary drone.". According to Dektas, his company does not yet know who is the potential buyer and user of SureFly, but hopes that the upcoming show will tell her the direction. In particular, SureFly can be interested in agricultural workers, emergency services, regular taxi passengers, logistics companies, as well as military.
