Mayor of Mariupol Vadym Boychenko called on EU countries to strengthen sanctions against Russia, in particular, to impose a complete embargo on Russian oil and gas in order to stop the genocide of Ukrainians.

This was stated by Boychenko during a round table on the political and legal consequences of the crimes of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in the video mode, which was quoted by the City Council of Mariupol.

The Mayor stressed that European countries must respond to crimes against humanity, against the Ukrainian people.

According to the mayor, Mariupol, which was recently a symbol of development, is now almost completely destroyed by the Russian occupiers.

Over 90% of city infrastructure destroyed. Of these, at least 40% are no longer recoverable.. At present, the city council has already created a commission that fixes the facts of the destruction of communal and private property. To date, more than 300 such facts have been added.. However, the main crime is thousands of killed Mariupol civilians..

The mayor stressed:

“Only according to preliminary estimates, 5,000 people died in Mariupol during the month of the blockade, of which approximately 210 were children.. Russian terrorist troops dropped several super-powerful bombs on a children's hospital, destroyed one of the buildings of the city hospital No. 1. Nearly 50 people burned alive. The Drama Theater was bombed, where by that time more than 900 people were hiding from shelling. These are just a few examples of the targeted destruction of the civilian population of Mariupol"
