Borrell stressed that everyone is born free and equal, and reaffirmed the EU's strong commitment to protecting and promoting human rights, including LGBT people.
He said he was concerned that 69 countries criminalize love relationships between people of the same sex, and 11 countries even threaten the death penalty for it..
“The EU will continue to tackle discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, highlighting the vulnerable position of LGBT people in the post-COVID-19 recovery period and calling for a fairer, more inclusive and resilient society,” Borrell said in a statement..
