In Liberia, they are looking for a batch of freshly printed banknotes worth $ 104 million, which is equal to 5% of the country's GDP. For the duration of the investigation, the authorities banned the departure of 15 Liberians.

Among them, Charles Sirleaf is the son of ex-president and Nobel laureate Helen Johnson-Sirleaf. Previously, he served as deputy director of the Central Bank, and also temporarily acted as head of the financial institution.

Liberia does not have a mint. The Central Bank orders the printing of the national currency abroad. The last time it was done in 2016, with the power of Helen Johnson-Sirleaf.

The money arrived at the port of Monrovia from November 2017 through August 2018. The party of banknotes in the amount of 104 million dollars disappeared in March. Then several employees of the Central Bank ordered a machine to deliver money, but they did not bring the banknote to the institution.

The investigation was initiated by the new President George Wea. Now the investigators are trying to figure out how much new banknotes were ordered in total, and where they were printed.
