As a result of the massive injection through the ATM of fake 5-thousand ruble denominations, Russian banks suffered multi-million losses. As reported on Tuesday, September 4, the newspaper Vedomosti, the manufacturer of frequently used devices in Russia for depositing and withdrawing cash, warned banks about this problem. It is separately specified that the affected were not all ATMs, but only those that had old devices for checking banknotes.
The exact damage has not yet been announced, but it will surely amount to several million rubles for each affected bank.
The names of the banks affected by the forging of fakes are not officially disclosed, with several banks reporting that they are aware of the problem, including the Moscow Credit Bank, Alfa-Bank and the Bank "Otkrytie". The latter two also limited in a number of ATMs the reception of five thousandth notes. Comments from Sberbank were not received.
Disclose fraud will not be easy, they write "Vedomosti. The problem is that it is extremely difficult to determine to which account the money was credited fraudulently, because the fake banknotes are mixed with genuine.
