The Ukrainian authorities opened an investigation into possible payments of former government officials to Semi Manafort for political consultations, said Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko.

According to him, the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine opened criminal proceedings against former officials who worked under President Viktor Yanukovych, who are suspected of paying Manafort for his work in the interests of Yanukovych and his Party of Regions.

In accordance with the laws of Ukraine, government officials are not allowed to engage in business, Lutsenko recalled..

The Prosecutor General did not name the names of the suspects, however, according to documents published by the American court, at least six Ukrainian oligarchs and politicians, including four people who held public positions under Yanukovych, paid Manafort $ 65.9 million.

Three other cases related to the professional activities of Manafort in Ukraine are currently being investigated by the Prosecutor General's Office of the country. Manafort itself is not charged with any charges in Ukraine.
