In July 2018, civil aviation aircraft performing transport operations in Ukraine faced 18 birds and hares. This was reported by the National Bureau for Investigation of Accidents and Incidents with Civil Aircraft, "Focus".
Five such incidents occurred with the aircraft of Ukrainian airlines and 13 - with foreign.
For example, on July 19, during a post-flight inspection of the Lufthansa airplane, traces of a collision with a bird on the nose fairing of the aircraft. An engineer-ornithologist on remains of feathers identified the species of a bird - a young swift.
On July 27, 2018, the Turkish Airlines plane collided with a seagull during the landing, and on July 30 the UIA took off the stork.
Also three times a month, UIA, Austrian Airlines and LOT aircraft collided during takeoff or landing with hares.
