Law enforcers suspect that the cause of the forest fire in the Chernobyl zone may be arson, having opened criminal proceedings under the relevant article.

This is stated in a message on the website of the National Police.

"On the fact of fire criminal proceedings were opened on h. 1 st. 245 (Destruction or damage to forest tracts) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Law enforcers conduct all necessary measures to establish the causes of the fire, find out all the circumstances of smoke and fire, "- said in a statement.

Earlier it was reported that torches were detected at the scene, which could indicate arson.
