17 students and one teacher at Merrol Hyde Magnet High School in Hendersonville, Tennessee, were injured because of a failed scientific experiment.
The chemical experiment led to an explosion, which affected the people in the classroom who arrived at the site, rescuers evacuated all people who were in the school, writes USA Today.
Medical assistance was provided to 17 pupils, at least four of them and teachers were taken to the hospital.
The cause of the explosion is still being investigated. There is no exact information on the severity of the injuries at the moment, but many of them received chemical burns.
Immediately after the explosion in the classroom there was a fire, so some victims were affected by the fire.
At the moment it is not known exactly how serious the injuries of the hospitalized victims are, there are no reports of the dead yet.
High school students were released from school earlier, immediately after the incident. The nearby junior school, whose building was not damaged, was also closed earlier, and the students were sent home.
