A similar decision was taken as a response to the terrorist attack that Hamas militants had previously organized. As a result of the detonation of a bomb at one of the checkpoints, Israel lost four IDF soldiers. The explosive was attached to one of the flags and activated during the clashes that the local population organized with the Israeli police.

The Air Force bombed one of the tunnels, which was illegally erected by militants, and where weapons and ammunition were stored. The death toll is not reported.

"The IDF intends to ensure the security of the citizens of Israel and will do this by all available forces at its disposal," reads the official notification of the Ministry of Defense.
