It is reported that earth tremors were triggered by the movement of tectonic plates in the Pacific Ocean. The epicenter was 148 km near the city of Oaxaca, home to more than 260 thousand people. As a result of the earthquake, about 100 km of the coastal zone of the state was completely destroyed. The tremors inside the earth's crust were felt by the inhabitants of Mexico City.

This is the second time in the new year for the country, when the amplitude of earth tremors exceeds six points on the Richter scale.

The state authorities declared a state of emergency, schools and municipalities temporarily closed, land transport movement is limited. While information about the victims did not arrive, however, the mayor promised to attract people from remote areas of the state to the army.
