In the US state of Washington, a catastrophe occurred: several wagons of a high-speed train descended from the tracks and collapsed from the bridge onto the freeway. One car fenced off the road connecting San Diego, Seattle and Los Angeles, the second hung from him on the bridge, which greatly hampered the rescue of the victims. The cars collapsed onto the cars passing below. At least five cars were damaged.

It is known that among the motorists there are no dead, but the victims are. The composition consisted of 78 passengers, five crew members and a technician. The speed of the train was 130 kilometers per hour. While it is known about 6 dead. However, most likely, their number will increase. 77 victims were hospitalized from the scene, and the rescue operation continues.

Eyewitnesses say that for some reason the emergency exits did not work in the cars, people had to knock out windows to get out.

The accident occurred on a level stretch between the cities of Lakewood and Olympia, 80 kilometers from Seattle. Its causes are yet to be understood.

Currently, motorists are advised not to use the route 1-5, the traffic on which is completely blocked by the fallen wagons.

President of the company Amtrak, which owned the train, Richard Anderson told reporters that the "trouble-free train control system" for some reason was not activated during the emergency. This system should automatically slow the train and, eventually, stop the train if it feels that the train is going too fast and it is possible to get off the rails. This train for the first time toured this route.
