The incident occurred about nine o'clock in the evening. As reported by the press service of the police of the Mykolayiv region, a report about the tragedy came from a local woman who passed by a park located in the intersection of streets of 68 paratroopers and 3rd Slobodskaya.

She heard a shot, and then noticed that an elderly man had fallen on a bench in the park. Already at the scene of the incident, law enforcement officers established that the man had shot himself in the head from a Makarov pistol. At the same time, according to the police, the pensioner suffered from a serious illness and before committing suicide left a note to his family that he did not want to be a burden to his relatives.

The gun, one cartridge case and three cartridges that were loaded in the store were seized and sent for examination. The body of the deceased is aimed at conducting forensic medical examination, the press service informed, adding that in fact a criminal case was opened, in advance, on the grounds of the article on suicide.
