The scuffle occurred in the southern coastal city of Gintota, where a small group of Buddhist extremists fought and a Muslim minority. Police spokesman Ruvan Gunasekera said that one of the local residents specifically disseminated information that Muslims with weapons intend to attack a Buddhist temple. As a result, two local religious groups quarreled. Police arrested about 19 people on both sides.

It is noteworthy that Muslims make up only nine percent of the total population of the country.

As reported in URA-Inform, recently the international non-governmental organization Amnesty Internationa claims that the government of Myanmar deliberately carries out violent repression against Muslim Rohingja.
