According to the publication, the first wapiti jumped on the runway of the airfield in the park Nehalem Bay, when it was boarding a twin-engine Van's Aircraft RV-8.
The pilot tried to avoid a collision and sent the plane up, but did not manage to gain sufficient altitude and hit the animal with a propeller and chassis. After this, another wapiti ran out to meet the plane and hit the left wing.
As a result of the incident, both deer died. The pilot and his passenger were not injured, but the plane suffered significant damage.
