On a Sunday evening at 702 kilometers of the Baikal highway near the village of Khokhotui from the road, it disappeared into a ditch and a bus with over 51 people turned over.

It is known that the passengers were pilgrims who returned to Chita from the annual prayer service and the procession to the now-defunct Chikoy Ioanno-Predtechensky Monastery. Among the pilgrims were children. As a result of the accident ten passengers died on the spot, the eleventh passenger died on the way to the hospital. Later, another victim died from the injuries. More than 35 people were taken to the Petrovsk-Zabaikalsky hospital, many of them suffered serious injuries, their condition is estimated as extremely difficult. So the list of victims can be replenished. Heavy patients were transported by helicopters to Chita. The specialists of the Siberian Regional Center of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia and the Center for Disaster Medicine of the Republic of Buryatia work with the victims.

The cause of the accident could be that the driver fell asleep at the wheel. Passengers say that he had a very tired look. Now information about the driver's compliance with the work and rest regime is checked.

In addition, the site at which the incident occurred is generally considered dangerous. There is a sharp turn, now repair work is being carried out and the curb barrier separating the road from a break about 30 meters in height is being dismantled, from which the bus with pilgrims fell.
