A Russian military detachment was detained at the Lithuanian checkpoint in Kybartai on Thursday evening, Gedrius Mishutis, a spokesman for the Lithuanian State Border Protection Service, told BNS.

According to Delfi, about 21 hours the Lithuanian border guards checked the transit train Kaliningrad-Moscow in Kybartai, which entered Lithuania from the Kaliningrad region. Together with the border guards, the train was also checked by the military center for control over the movement of the Lithuanian army. "When checking the documents it was found out that in one compartment there are four Russian soldiers in civilian clothes," BNS told Mishutis.

From the documents it became clear that they were Russian military, although they did not specify it.

When a group of soldiers from four or more people transit through Lithuania, they are considered a military detachment, so they need permission to travel through Lithuania. The Russian military did not have such permission.

"They were taken off the train, the border guards wrote a refusal to permit permission to cross the state border," Mishutis told BNS..

Until midnight, the Russian military was returned to another train to the Kaliningrad region.
