Victims of the descent of landslides in southwest Colombia have become at least 154 people, said President Juan Manuel Santos. According to the authorities of the country, at least 190 people suffered. A lot of people are missing, but so far the authorities do not call specific figures.

Strong torrential rains, lasting several hours, led to the fact that the rivers in the region left the coast. The collapse of landslides was caused mainly by the flooding of the Mokoa River and its tributaries.

The President of the country went to the most affected area - Department Putumayo. "My heart and the hearts of all Colombians are with the victims of this tragedy," said Juan Manuel Santos after arriving in the region affected by the landslides.

In search of the missing and the elimination of the consequences of the landslide, more than 1,000 military.

Rescuers report that bad weather conditions make it difficult to search for victims. Also, access to the affected areas is severely hampered - many bridges in the region are destroyed, roads are damaged.

The head of Putumayo Province, Sorrel Aroka, reported that mud flows flooded entire blocks. The city of Mokoa - the administrative center of the Putumayo department - was actually cut off from the outside world, the city does not have electricity, and the water supply system does not work. This is reported by the Air Force.
