Spanish La Liga for the 2026/27 season will feature balls with Connected Ball technology. A radio frequency sensor is used to transmit information about the position of the ball and the moment of contact with it in real time mode.
The new system will be used in all matches of the highest division of Spain and will use both VAR and technology for automatically marking offsides. Thus, La Liga will become the first national league to introduce Connected Ball in all matches of its elite division.
Before the development of this technology, arbitrators will undergo special training under the supervision of the Technical Committee of Judges. It turns out that from the 2027/28 season the system will also begin to be used in Segunda.
The sensor was developed by Kinexon, after which it was integrated into the official Puma ball. The signal from the new one is received by approximately 12 antennas installed on the skin stage. The collected data is integrated into the technological system of La Liga.
Liza understands that the innovation allows you to significantly more accurately determine the moment the football player reaches the ball. This is especially important in episodes where the difference of a few milliseconds can affect the decision of the arbitrator.
" This helps to make more objective decisions in situations related to offsides, shaking your hand, smart and dots, confessions of kutovs, sneaky dots and other episodes, it is important to accurately determine the moment.
Connected Ball technology has already been tested during the World Championship 2026.
