Kyiv police reported suspicion to three former officials of the carriage building plant in the case of supplying low-quality passenger cars to Ukrzaliznytsya.. They manufactured the cars in violation of technology and used low-quality metal, which led to significant structural defects and the impossibility of safe operation of the rolling stock.

Political scientist Kirill Sazonov stated this.

“Formally, everything went according to the documents: tender, quality control, signatures, payment. And after a few years, the cars began to literally fall apart. “Ukrzaliznytsya’s losses exceeded UAH 64 million,” Sazonov noted..

He also drew attention to the contrast between the old and new rolling stock: according to him, a significant part of the old cars after major repairs continue to be used safely for decades, while some new cars cannot withstand even several years of operation.

" Saving on metal, technology, quality control. The main thing is to win the tender and use the money,” he wrote.

According to Sazonov, the problem goes far beyond the railway industry and concerns the general state of industry in Ukraine - after all, the engineering school, production control system and industrial culture in the country have been destroyed for years.

“For some reason we decided that we could endlessly destroy industrial culture and the control system, and then just “buy a new one”. But something new without normal production and specialists turns into decoration,” the expert noted and emphasized that in conditions of a full-scale war, problems in the transport and industrial spheres become a matter not only of the economy, but also of state security.
