Military ID: is it necessary to have it when applying for a job?

General mobilization and martial law continue in Ukraine. During this period, as in times of peace, Ukrainians liable for military service must comply with the rules of military registration. Specialists from the South-Eastern Interregional Department of the State Labor Service explained whether an employer has the right to demand a military ID from an employee when applying for employment.

Derzhpratsi explained that the procedure for hiring, as well as the list of documents that a candidate for a position must submit, is determined by Article 24 of the Labor Code, which obliges candidates for employment to submit, among other things, a military registration document.

Experts noted that additional requirements are established by the Procedure for organizing and maintaining military records of conscripts, those liable for military service and reservists, approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 1487 dated 30. 12. 2022.

Thus, paragraph 34 of this Procedure determines that for the purpose of maintaining personal military records, state bodies, local governments, enterprises, institutions and organizations check the presence of a military registration document among citizens of Ukraine when hiring.
