Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois responded harshly to an incident with racist images at Vinicius Junior's address during the Champions League match against Benfica. The Belgian called it pathetic the Lisbon club's attempts to release their winger Gianluca Prestianni, who would use racist language against the Brazilian.

The tension around the incident increased after the comments of Benfica head coach Jose Mourinho, who suggested that the reaction of the patients and the emotions on the field were provoked by the fact that Vinicius himself celebrated the holiday.

Courtois Mittevo threw up any chance of trying to shift the blame onto his teammate.

" This is what has happened and we cannot justify the incredible act of racism through the holy sanctuary,” said the Belgian goalkeeper. " But I am not overwhelmed by those who view Vinicius’s holy day as a vindication,” adding.
