Ukraine made its debut in team competitions at the Olympics as part of Angelina Brykina, Dmitry Kotovsky and Alexander Okipnyuk. The team finished the first round of the finals in second place: Brykina landed the Back Full-Full-Full jump with a score of 90.58 points, second only to the USA with 16.31 points.

In the second round, Okipnyuk did not land Back Double Full-Full-Full and received 76.92 points. After this, the Ukrainian team dropped to fifth place.

The USA became the Olympic champions with a score of 325.35 points, Switzerland took second place with 296.91, and China took third with 279.68..

After the end of the competition, the head coach of the Ukrainian national team, Enver Ablaev, in a commentary for Suspilne Sport, explained the change in tactics due to weather conditions and stated that the team missed the chance for awards.

" We planned to switch to a triple somersault with four screws, it was enough to just resist and calmly advance to the super final, and only there to fight for gold and perform the most difficult jumps. In principle, everything was right, but the guys couldn’t cope. They just gave away the medals. We were ready, showed good jumps in training, but at competitions something didn’t work out. Maybe the load - I don't know. They were completely ready to win,” said Ablaev.

The coach also commented on the condition of the athletes and the outcome of the performance..

" Of course they're upset. You just need to go to the end, do what you did before the competition, don’t invent anything. Unfortunately, we didn't make it. The only word is “apology” to the country, because I was 100% sure that we would not return from this Olympics without medals. We did everything to win awards. Now the disappointment is greater than four years ago, because then we couldn’t even compete in team competitions, but now we had a chance,” he said.
