Severe frosts lead not only to emergency power outages or accidents on heating mains, but also add other threats. People believe the ice sheet is strong enough for people or even cars to be there.. But it is impossible to guarantee the required ice thickness. And dangerous winter fun - drifting on ice can lead to tragedy, as happened at the Kiev Reservoir.

This was reported on February 5 by Suspilne.

At the Kiev reservoir in the Vyshgorod region, a car fell through the ice while drifting. There were two men in the cabin. The body of one of them was found, the other is still being searched by divers. Victoria Ruban, press secretary of the State Service for Emergency Situations of the Kyiv Region, announced this on air..

The day before, a video was circulated on social networks showing how a car drives onto the ice and soon goes under the ice..

According to Victoria Ruban, at the place where the car disappeared, rescuers cut through the ice and began search operations. Soon the car was pulled out of the water, and the body of a dead man was found inside.. The search for another is hampered by strong currents and bad weather.

“At the moment, divers are working, examining the water area to find the second person. The work itself is complicated by frost, heavy snow and very low visibility in the water. Therefore, divers and rescuers have to examine almost every 10 centimeters in order to find the body of the second man,” said Victoria Ruban.

Over the past weeks, videos have been circulating on social networks of dinners being held on the ice of reservoirs, where people are trying to unload amid the difficult situation in Ukraine. But on the ice there is no way to organize a quick rescue in the event of an air attack by Russian occupiers, and there is also no air raid alert that could warn people. And it’s generally dangerous for people to be on ice.

Another type of winter extreme recreation is drifting, performing sudden car movements and complex figures on ice..

The press secretary of the State Emergency Service added that in recent weeks, more and more videos have been appearing on social networks of cars driving out onto the ice of the Kyiv Sea for drifting.. This is a very dangerous type of recreation, despite the severe frost and thick ice.

“The only rule is not to go out on the ice, do not drive a car under any circumstances, so that such a situation does not happen.”. Where yesterday there were no gullies in such frost, with such thickness of ice, today gullies are appearing in many places. It is precisely because there is a rise in the ice level that the ice varies and that is why new gullies appear. And this is very dangerous,” said Victoria Ruban.

Let us remind you that last year in the Kherson region five children aged from 9 to 16 years fell through the ice..

Four children were walking on a frozen river when they fell through the ice. A 16-year-old girl, seeing this, rushed to their aid, but also went under water.. Fortunately, caring people were able to pull her and one of the girls out. And three children - a girl and two boys - died.

The State Emergency Service calls on citizens not to go out on the ice, as it remains dangerous even in winter.
