President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Vadim Gutzeit commented on the decision of the titled Ukrainian diver Sofia Lyskun to change her citizenship to Russian.
The President of the NOC is quoted by the portal "
" This girl moved from Lugansk to Kyiv in 2014, played for the Ukrainian national team, and had a pro-Ukrainian position. It's just betrayal! I can't wrap my head around this. Why do this, especially now, when we have stood and continue to fight for our independence.
I remember very well how much both the state and the federation helped her. She had no problems with financing - they paid her a scholarship, organized training camps and trips to competitions. She received help from the Ministry of Sports, the Ukrainian Diving Federation, and the city of Kyiv.. What or who influenced her decision remains to be seen. She probably had the opportunity to stay in Lugansk in 2014. But she left for the capital of Ukraine. I played for the national team for so many years and carried our blue and yellow flag.. There are simply no words,"
Sofia Lyskun has had a professional career since 2017 and managed to compete under the flag of Ukraine at two Olympics. Also in 2022, she became vice-world champion, and at the European Championships she won 11 medals, including four golds. She won her last victory at the European Championships as part of the Ukrainian national team in mixed competitions in May of this year..
