The cost of an average trip on Ukrzaliznytsia commuter trains exceeds 300 UAH, while the price for passengers averages 15 UAH. The head of the Suburban Passenger Company branch, Iosif Bornak, spoke about this in an interview with Ukrinform.

As a result, the total amount of losses on suburban transportation at the end of 2025 will be about UAH 10 billion.

He also said that 95% of the rolling stock in suburban traffic is worn out, the average age of electric trains is 40 years.

There are currently about 200 trains operating on the routes, of which 11 were repaired this year.

The average cost of repairing one electric train is UAH 100-120 million. It will take 10 years to update the entire fleet at this rate, and then we will have to go to the second round of repair work.
