Additional leave: can it be extended in case of illness of a child?

In Ukraine, labor relations between employees and employers are regulated by relevant legislation. There are times when a person takes additional leave. Specialists from the South-Eastern Interregional Department of the State Labor Service told us whether additional leave is extended to employees in the event of a child’s illness.

Derzhpratsi explained that leave (in particular, annual and additional social leave for children) is not extended or transferred if a child falls ill during their stay.

“This is explained by the fact that labor legislation deals with illness during the vacation period of the employee.. Consequently, leave continues only in the event of temporary incapacity for work of the employee himself,” the message says..

Experts explained that this is regulated by. 7 tbsp. 20 of the “Law on Vacations”, which states that such vacation should be transferred to another period or continue for the number of days falling on the certificate of incapacity for work.

“The employee independently chooses whether to continue the vacation or postpone it, but this decision must be agreed with the employer and formalized by order,” the message says..
