After the recent emission of polluted drains to the Dnieper, residents of Left Bank Kyiv again felt a stench and saw stains on the water. This is not the first such case - the situation is repeated from year to year, but no system changes are happening. This was written by Bogdan Ferens, eco -volunteer, coordinator of the initiative #Harethyutirichkudnipro, in the article - "
According to the activist, the source of pollution is the collectors of the Kyivvodokanal Party, and the company itself actually avoids responsibility - refuses to check, disputes fines in the courts and inhibits the modernization of treatment facilities, despite billions of loans from Japan and France.
Ferens also draws attention to a deeper problem - the lack of proper environmental control throughout the country. Vodokanals often act as monopolists, who themselves give permits to discharge into the sewer, control themselves and turn a blind eye to violations.
The author calls for a real reform of the system: introducing serious fines, the appointment of professional managers, the adoption of new laws, the transparency of eco -control and the fulfillment of obligations to the EU. Otherwise, the pollution of the Dnieper - the source of drinking water for 70% of Ukrainians - will only delve into.
