The Ukrainian language is rapidly changing: new borrowings come, slang expressions are actively formed, technical terms are adapted. In this process, the specificly Ukrainian words that our ancestors used are often lost, but now they have become little -known or completely forgotten.

The word has two main meanings recorded in the dictionaries of the Ukrainian language.

" It is usually used in relation to a person whose hair begins to lose a natural color and partially gray. This is not a complete gray hair, but only its appearance is a light, initial shade.

The word is probably formed from the name of a bird - a starling (shpak), which has characteristic dark feathers with a light silver or greenish shine. This analogy gave reason to use the word to describe the color of the hair or the suit of animals.

The expansion of active vocabulary is not only a sign of education, but a way of supporting a linguistic tradition. This enriches the language, makes it more expressive and flexible.
