Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba called NATO's uncertainty towards Ukraine Putin's best ally. The diplomat wrote about this in the Foreign Affairs article “Why NATO should accept Ukraine. Kyiv needs the Alliance, and the Alliance needs Kyiv”.

“At the 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest, NATO allies identified Ukrainian membership as their goal, but have since spent more time signaling to Russia that this will not actually happen (at least not for the foreseeable future) than practical. In other words, the Alliance expressed a desire to keep the door open for Ukraine's membership, but only on the condition that it does not appear on NATO's doorstep in the near future.. After three Russian attacks - in Georgia in 2008, in Ukraine in 2014 and now again in Ukraine - it is clear that uncertainty is Putin's best ally..

The Foreign Minister noted that he had no doubts about NATO's current support for Ukraine, but questioned the Alliance's strategy for Ukraine and the long-term security of the Euro-Atlantic space.

“Fear has clouded the Alliance’s prudence for too long, leading it to pursue an overly cautious strategy that has led to dire consequences for thousands of Ukrainians who have been abducted, raped, tortured, deported or killed.. False NATO strategy allowed Russia to undermine the security of the West with cyberattacks, espionage and political interference. The non-acting leaders of the NATO countries made erroneous decisions that led to such consequences, but it is they who can take a step towards expanding the Alliance, thus protecting the Euro-Atlantic community,” Kuleba believes..

In his opinion, the admission of Ukraine to NATO will strengthen the Alliance. Today, Ukraine defends the entire eastern flank of NATO and shares its knowledge with allies. The country has proven that the NATO principle of decentralization does not work during a full-scale war, when up to 70% of the personnel of the units are mobilized military. Ukraine has helped strengthen NATO rules, standards and procedures, making the Alliance more prepared for modern high-intensity warfare. In addition, Ukraine has unsurpassed experience in countering hybrid threats and information warfare, ensuring the stability of state institutions and critical infrastructure.

“The best way to ensure Euro-Atlantic security is to admit Ukraine to NATO. Politicians, diplomats and analysts can always look for new arguments why Ukraine should be left at the door, as they have been doing for many years.. The good news is that each new argument is weaker than the previous one.. The bad news is that the constant need to debunk them wastes valuable time at the expense of people's safety.. Ukraine needs NATO, and NATO needs Ukraine,” Kuleba summed up.

Recall that a NATO summit is scheduled to be held in Vilnius (Lithuania) on July 11-12, and Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk said that Ukraine is waiting to receive an invitation to the Alliance.

During a visit to Kyiv on April 20, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that " Ukraine's full-fledged place is in NATO," Vice Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament Dora Duro said that Ukraine's accession to NATO is allegedly impossible without the consent of Russia. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry told her that "
