Today, April 11, during a working visit to Canada, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmihal, together with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, signed a joint declaration on updating the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and Ukraine. The head of the Ukrainian government announced this on Telegram.
The prime minister says that the Agreement will ensure maximum market liberalization: “In opening markets, we are switching to the principle of work “everything that is not prohibited is allowed”. All prohibitions and exceptions are carefully defined and governed by the articles of the agreement.”.
In particular, the section on digital trade will be updated. Freedom of cross-border transmission of information, freedom to choose the location of equipment, freedom of outgoing code and open access to the Internet will be ensured. “For Ukraine, which is one of the leaders in the IT sector in Europe, this opens up excellent opportunities,” the prime minister emphasized and recalled that Ukraine already has a Digital Trade Agreement with the UK.

It is important that after the signing of the agreement, the Ukrainian business will be able to export products to Canada without tariffs, even if the components of these products originate from the EU, EFTA, Britain and Israel. This approach encourages foreign businesses to create production in Ukraine and includes the country in global production chains..
