Latvia in April of this year will begin the second phase of building a wall on the border with Belarus, writes Delfi. The length of the fence at this stage will be 63.9 km. In parallel with this, preparations will begin for equipping the fence with modern technologies..

During the first stage of construction of the fence, its length was 54 km. During the winter, construction was halted due to weather that prevented completion of the fencing in the swampy area.. Work will continue when the soil becomes firmer and the air warms up to above +10 degrees..

It is noted that the complexity in the construction of the fence also lies in the terrain.. In particular, the borderland - this steep slopes and wetlands. At the same time, the roads must be safe while the fence is being built..

According to the project, the border strip between Latvia and Belarus should be 173 km. The first stage of construction of the fence with a length of 85.9 km is planned to be completed by the beginning of autumn this year, and the second (63.9 km) and the third (16.7 km) - before the end of 2024. The first two phases of construction will cost 102.7 million euros.
