The Fencing Federation of Ukraine (FFU) decided to boycott tournaments and fights with the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus.
This was reported by the press service of the FFU.
The presidium of the organization took this step in connection with the decision of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) to return Russians and Belarusians to tournaments under its auspices, which will come into force in the second half of April.
Athletes, coaches and judges will boycott tournaments. The FFU will create a working group that will formulate an action plan for the upcoming competitions.
It is worth noting that tournaments will begin in April, through which qualifications for the 2024 Olympics in Paris will be held.. Thus, the Ukrainian fencing team may not go to the Games.
Recall that in the past, the International Fencing Federation was led by Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov, who left this post after the start of a full-scale military invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. The current acting president of the FIE is Greek Emmanuel Katsiadakis..
