President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that during a meeting with representatives of the Secret Intelligence Service as part of his recent visit to the UK, the problem of disinformation and fake news was discussed. The head of state advised the domestic media to check the information they publish more carefully.

“We had a meeting at the MI6 office. Unfortunately, I can not voice all information. That is, these are state affairs. I read what they write about the composition of this meeting. Firstly, there was a different composition at this meeting, "

Also, according to him, the issue that, according to some Ukrainian media, allegedly was raised at this meeting, in fact, was not considered at all.

“Of the entire volume of questions from our long two-hour meeting, most were information about assistance and protection of our sovereignty and territorial integrity.. I cannot spread the details, ”the President of Ukraine noted..

The head of state said that one of the topics discussed at the meeting concerned countering disinformation and fake news..

“They just said that we have a big problem with the fact that the media are funded not only by Ukrainians.. That in Ukraine, unfortunately, many of the TV channels that we know are funded by various groups, "

He stressed that the issues of protecting freedom and protecting information are very important for the security of the state, therefore, the creation of independent media is relevant..

Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that journalists will preserve their authority and, regardless of who owns a particular media outlet, check the information.

“It seems to me that the main essence of this profession is to verify information and freely publish. And it is right. As for independent media, I'm sure we have a lot of independent journalists. And we will always support their freedom "
