His personal life and career was not discussed only by the lazy. Travolta was labeled a sectarian (since 1975, he practiced Scientology), he was condemned for his indiscrimination in the choice of roles. His new film "The Code of Gotti" many critics had time to boo. So what? 64-year-old John continues to radiate cheerfulness and firmly intends to return to the big cinema.
Gotti is one of the most successful of my roles, John, they say that the "Gotti Code" could not have taken place ... I always wanted to play the last classic Don of the Italian mafia - and did it. Although for seven years of work on the tape the script was completely rewritten several times, 37 producers, four film crews and the same number of directors changed. Already just before the release of the film, the rental company suddenly decided not to release it on screens. I had to look for people who bought the picture and showed the viewer. I believe that John Gotti is one of my most successful roles.
The film was played by your wife Kelly Preston and even her daughter was going to participate in it. What happened when everyone came home from the set?.
"Crazy Family" is about us. Instead of resting, Kelly and I continued to rehearse the scenes, and at dinner we discussed the mistakes of the past day. And the "Gotty Code" was no exception - it was always. The daughter of Ella Blue, having seen enough of her father and mother, at some point hated the movie. Why she again started talking about a career in this industry, when she turned 17, did not understand. But I do not have tea in my children and support them in all my endeavors. Want to withdraw - well, do not want - do not. Let grow free and happy. We were thinking of drawing Ella Ble to the shootings in the Gotty Code, but the plans changed. Now we play with her father and daughter in another picture - "Poisonous Rose".
"Pulp", changed the fate In your career, there were failures. What during these periods kept you afloat?.
When there were breaks in filming, as, for example, in the 1980s, I wasted my time simply living. They asked me: "How did you survive without work? ". I answered: "Are you kidding? !! Three years of life I spent traveling, met hundreds of new people, gained experience ". Yes, I would not trade this time for ten years of regular filming! Tell me, well, who else from the actors at a fairly young age had the opportunity to travel, meet with presidents of different countries and dance with the very princess Diana?.
And then you met Quentin Tarantino, who threw open for you the gate of Hollywood ... Tarantino did not want to shoot me in the "Pulp Fiction". He was invited to the project "From Dusk Till Dawn" to the role of Seth Gekko, who then went to George Clooney. I remember that one day Quentin and I locked ourselves in his apartment and talked all night about the movie. He kept repeating: "Why did not you respond to my proposal to star in the movie" From Dusk Till Dawn "? ". I was tired of listening to this, and I said: "It was not interesting". He stopped in thoughtfulness and said: "Oh, how! ". And we went home to sleep. A week later he invited me to the role of Vincent Vega, which I so wanted.
And "Pulp Fiction", as in its time "Brilin" and "Saturday Night Fever", changed the history of cinema.
I'm proud and happy that I was able to film in all these tapes. I am proud of every choice - it does not matter whether the painting was considered a failure or elevated to a cult. I do not regret anything!.
Second thing - aircraft How do you keep yourself in shape? Still dancing?.
Required! At least every other day. Dance is the best thing in the world. He brings joy, besides this is the fastest way to lose weight and get into shape. But just in case, I also do three times a week on simulators and play tennis! (Laughs). ) Do you fly a plane?.
Oh yeah! I think if I had studied a little better at school, I would have gone straight to the aviation. But I was too creative a family, so I had to earn money to finance the hobby. There was a period when, for the sake of aviation, I began to give up roles. I remember that Richard Gere played in one of these paintings, and she became a hit ("American Gigolo" (1979). - Prim. red. But I do not regret. After all, I mastered 26 types of aircraft and even made regular flights. Aviation is for me a kind of spiritual experience, because a person, as you know, has always dreamed of flying.
John Travolta now - a cult figure. What is your attitude to popularity?.
Charlie Chaplin is a cult and an icon. But I, unlike him, still alive ... Being a cult figure in life is a very strange sensation. However, every time I see people trying to repeat my dance moves from the "Pulp Fiction", I have a smile on my face. Such, as now! (Widespread smile.
