Carlo Ancelotti is very close to becoming the new head coach of the Italian team.

A recent edition of Corriere dello Sport claims that it is likely that Italy will be led by Carlo Ancelotti.

"Squadron Azzurra" is without a coach after the dismissal Giampiero Ventura, who failed to bring the national team to the World Cup. In the matches against Argentina and England, she was led by a temporary officer Luigi Di Biagio.

The name of the new coach should be announced on May 20. It was previously expected that this will be Roberto Mancini, who is currently working at Zenith.

However, Corriere dello Sport claims that yesterday (April 23) Ancelotti met with the commissioner of the Italian Football Federation Roberto Fabbricini and his deputy Alessandro Costacurta in one of the Roman hotels.

Within one and a half hours the functionaries persuaded Ancelotti to take up work in the national team.

So far, no agreement has been reached on principle - the parties still need to agree on the financial aspect.

The federation has 5 million euros in the budget for the salary of the coach and his assistants, and this is much less than Ancelotti earned in Bavaria and can earn if he heads the club.

Antonio Conte in the national team earned a little more than 4 million euros per year, but part of his salary was paid by Puma.

To compensate for this shortcoming, Costacurta offered Ancelotti the freedom to choose a coaching staff. Probably, it will include David Ancelotti (son of Carlo), as well as one of the former players of Milan - Andrea Pirlo or Massimo Ambrosini.

Ancelotti is also associated with Chelsea and Arsenal.
