The Austrian Federal Administrative Court recognized Peter Franzmeier, a former employee of the Ministry of Transport, as a victim of gender discrimination in the workplace. In 2011, the internal commission of the ministry, considering candidacies for the post, preferred the woman-colleague of Franzmayer Ursula Zenher, although the qualification of Franzmayer was estimated at 0.25% higher.

As the then acting Minister of Transport Doris Bruce said, the procedure was in accordance with the law, but the final decision was made because of the "large-scale shortage of women", writes EuroPulse.

Now the court ruled that the state should pay Franzmeier about 318 thousand euros - this amount includes the difference in wages that it could receive when increasing, and compensation for moral damages. Peter Franzmeier resigned from the Ministry of Transport in 2012.
