The epicenter of the shock element was at a depth of 23 km in the core of the lithospheric plates near the town of Kirakir. The island was shaking in a radius of 145 km from the city. The jolts were fixed at about 11 am. As a result, a state of emergency was declared on the islands, the city authorities asked people to urgently evacuate to temporary camps where they could wait a few days for the elements. All municipal institutions, schools and hospitals were closed down. Airports and railways stopped working.
Information on casualties and destruction was not received. The tsunami threat was not announced, but weather forecasters warn of the approach of a tropical storm.
