Almost half of adults underestimate how large their waist is to begin to potentially affect the risk of heart disease, British experts say..

According to medical standards, women are at an increased risk of heart disease if their waist exceeds 80 cm, while the waistline of men should not exceed 92 cm. Nevertheless, according to a survey, more than 40% of respondents thought that their stomachs do not cause any harm to health. 20% of the subjects believed that the waistline of 100 cm for men and 87 cm for women was quite acceptable. In general, less than half of adults (42%) were aware of the risk of high blood pressure, which could lead to a heart attack and stroke, and almost half of adults (46%) did not know which body mass index is healthy. Only 15% knew that adults are recommended to do 30 minutes of exercise five times a week to keep their heart healthy.

The results show that millions of people are putting their hearts at risk, as they do not take the necessary measures to prevent heart disease. In addition, although most people are aware of the risk factors for developing heart disease, such as high blood pressure, overweight, sedentary lifestyle and malnutrition, they often do not attach any importance to this. This fact raises the question of why, despite numerous campaigns to inform the public about heart disease, messages never reach the people.
