Iodine from salt quickly volatilizes. Once iodized with enough volatile potassium iodide, then so it really was. Now iodize with more stable potassium iodate, which not only does not persist for a long time even from the depressurized pack of salt, but also does not deteriorate very little during heat treatment. Although still better to salt dishes (salads, baked meat, cereals) at the end of cooking - so the loss of iodine is practically zero. This, in the first place. Secondly, as already mentioned, in Ukraine the production of iodized products is not standardized, therefore the quality of raw materials used remains on the conscience of its producers. One of the signs that the salt is done in the old manner - the salt has a brightly expressed taste of iodine.
Sea salt is better. Sea salt does contain a number of microelements, which makes it useful. But the iodine in it is scanty - just. And if the minerals we can get from other food products, then with sources of iodine in the territory of Ukraine - is problematic. Therefore, it is optimal to use sea iodinated salt.
Shortage can be made up with ordinary drops of iodine. In no case! In each drop of iodine from the vial, which we often disinfect wounds, contains 6,000 micrograms of iodine. That is, 30 times the daily requirement. This completely blocks the thyroid gland for at least two weeks, which will cause a malfunction in the hormonal system, immune, nervous, breaks the metabolism. And if such drops will not be one ... For the same reason, do not put on the skin an iodine netting as a way to combat iodine deficiency. In this way, hundreds of times more iodine will be delivered! A healthy person without problems with the thyroid gland may experience iodine (runny nose, watery eyes, cough). But if there is a disease of the thyroid gland - and even if you do not know about it yet - then the reticular can strengthen / manifest a dysfunction of the gland.
Undoubtedly, there are iodine-containing drugs, which are indispensable. For example, some antiseptics, candles for the treatment of inflammatory diseases, antiarrhythmic drugs for the heart and drugs used in some X-rays or the same iodine that some of us like to lubricate a child with a bruised knee. You can not!.
Short-term use of a healthy person harm will not bring. But you need to be sure that the thyroid gland is really okay. Because in any case need a doctor's consultation. Also the doctor should specify a status of a gland before purpose or appointment of the specified contrast. Assigns without looking? Change your doctor. Remember also that prolonged use of antiarrhythmic drugs requires control of the thyroid gland.
But if we are talking about the prevention of radiation poisoning, when there was a release of radioactive elements into the atmosphere (now or 2-3 days ago), then iodine can just help: once 5 drops with a little water. When there was an accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, in Poland, for example, it was precisely this that pre-empted the consequences of exposure to the thyroid gland of radioactive iodine. Of course, the problem could not be completely leveled: the Poles have thyroid diseases, but there is no such increase in the incidence of thyroid cancer as in Ukraine.
