The first "free space state" in the world, Asgardia, finally left the Earth. Satellite Asgardia-1, which the project representatives call an independent data center, went into space aboard the ship Cygnus. His system stores data of 0.5 TB, including the constitution, state symbols and information about citizens of Asgardia.
Launch vehicle Orbital ATK Antares with cargo ship Cygnus started from the American cosmodrome Wallops, Virginia. A space truck will deliver supplies to the ISS, after which it will put into orbit satellite Asgardia-1. The miniature satellite is equipped with a 512 GB hard drive, which contains data on 300,000 citizens of the "free space state" of Asgardia, as well as the constitution and state symbols.
An unrecognized state without territory, named after the heavenly city in Scandinavian mythology, at first glance seems to be a phenomenon from science fiction. However, the creator of the project Igor Ashurbeyli - an entrepreneur and former director of the Russian defense concern Almaz-Antey - seriously plans to formalize Asgardia as an independent state.
"We are approaching the end of the automotive era".
As reported by Engadget, Ashurbeyli hopes to receive UN recognition. Apply to the organization of the entrepreneur planned immediately after the site Asgardia registered at least 100 000 citizens. Now their number, according to unofficial data, already exceeds 300,000 (the counter on the official website shows only 116,000), but the application to the UN has not yet been formalized.
