As a result of the increasingly widespread use of crypto currency in Japan, since early 2017, the number of cyber crimes has increased dramatically. This is reported by the Nikkei Asian Review.

According to local police, from January to June 2017, citizens filed a record number of applications for cyber fraud - 69,977. More than half of them are related to Internet fraud.

A total of 23 cases of embezzlement of crypto-currency in 13 prefectures of Japan. In total, citizens lost about 59.2 million yen ($ 542,000).

The number of remote computer hacking and virus attacks increased one and a half times - to 6848 cases.

At the same time, the percentage of disclosure of cybercrime has decreased - in six months the police closed only 4209 such cases.

Employees of the police department of Japan warned citizens about the risks of crypto-currencies and the dangers of Internet devices of things, because of which the number of cases of remote hacking of devices.

Recall that in July 2017, hackers broke the largest in terms of transactions in the world South Korean crypto exchange Bithumb, stealing bitcoins for several tens of millions of dollars.
