Hungary will prevent all Ukrainian initiatives on the international arena, until Kiev renounces the discriminatory law on education. Information on this on Monday, September 11, distributed the Foreign Ministry of Hungary.
The opinion of Budapest that the law on education adopted in Ukraine is "a shame and a disgrace", the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country Peter Siyarjato decided personally to inform the Ukrainian Ambassador Lyubov Nepop. As the press secretary of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tamas Mencer, said, the Hungarian authorities ordered all their diplomats to completely deprive Nezalezhny of support and to oppose any Kyiv initiatives on the international arena until the amendments to the discriminatory law.
Resonant legislative norm on September 5 was adopted by the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada. In their opinion, it is necessary to receive education in Ukraine exclusively in the state language. Therefore, since 2020. in the country it is forbidden to teach subjects in foreign languages.
In Budapest, it is believed that this law violates the rights of national minorities, including 150,000 residing Hungarians in Ukraine, depriving them of the right to learn in their native language. As stated by the Foreign Minister Siyarto during his visit to Estonia last Thursday, for the country that seeks to get closer to Europe, the adoption of such norms is absolutely unacceptable.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister stressed that before Budapest "louder than all" supported the introduction of visa-free travel between Ukraine and the EU, arranged a reverse of gas for the Nezalezhnaya, accepted thousands of Ukrainian children for rehabilitation. And in return received from Kiev "a knife in the back".
Concern about the adopted law was also expressed by Romania.
